Team Training in New York
Refashioning the Renaissance team will travel to New York after the Renaissance Society of America 2019 Conference, for a five-day training on experimental hands-on methods and object-based research.
The aim of this training is to meet with local researchers and museum professionals, and engage in meaningful and in-depth discussions on experimental methods. During the week we are visiting the Bard Graduate Center, Metropolitan Museum of Art and their Antonio Ratti Textile Center and Reference Library , and The Making and Knowing Project at the Columbia University, where our postdoctoral researcher and former M&K member Sophie Pitman will introduce us to their lab and lead an experiment based on the BnF Ms. Fr. 640 manuscript the project is working with. To deepen our understanding of the processes of learning by making, we are also taking a lace-making course with Elena Kanagy-Loux, who has studied extensively early modern lacemaking.
