We are joining Artisans of the Surface Workshop and MEDATS Study Day in London on 20-22 September

On 20-21 September, Paula Hohti, Michele Robinson and Piia Lempiäinen are joining the Artisans of the Surface in Early Modern Europe, 1450–1750 by the Renaissance Skin project in King’s College London. The workshop focuses on how early modern artisans shared skills related to the observation and manipulation of human and non-human surfaces. The Renaissance Skin project, led by Professor Evelyn Welch, studies the myriad ways human and animal skin was conceptualised and used in early modern Europe, and it has several connections to Refashioning the Renaissance project.

On Saturday 22 September, Paula and Piia will take part to Medieval Dress and Textile Society‘s Study Day, titled Learning through Reconstruction. During the day, the speakers will use case studies of reconstructions to present the process of learning by making, and each reconstruction is examined and discussed. Experiments and reconstructions will be an important part of our project especially from next year onwards, and we are excited to take part of the discussion around methodology of reconstructions.
