Meeting with colleagues in Uppsala
We are very happy to visit Uppsala University on 17–18 October, where Dr Cecilia Aneer has invited us to meet the researchers of the unit for Textile Studies. The researchers in Uppsala work with production and trade of textiles and dress in late medieval and early modern Sweden, and our research interests overlap in many ways. Paula Hohti, Michele Robinson, Anne-Kristine Sindvald Larsen will spend two days in Sweden, and Piia Lempiäinen joins them for one day.
On the first day, we are gathering together for an informal seminar, where we will present our work and bring our groups together to discuss and discover common interests. In the afternoon we also have an opportunity to visit the Uppsala Cathedral and see the rich collection of their medieval and early modern textiles, including the infamous Sture costumes from 1560s. On the second day, Cecilia will take our team to Vasa Museum, and introduce us to the documentation project where over 5600 textile finds from the warship Vasa that sunk in 1628 are catalogued and systemised.
We are very excited for this opportunity to exchange thoughts and ideas with our Swedish colleagues!
